In a show of the resolute nature of the US mission in Iraq, President Bush engaged in a strong hand shake with Frau Merkel, the German headmistress. While unsure of why the president was squeezing her hand so tightly, F. Merkel responded in kind in an effort to show solidarity with the leader of the US.
